Natriumhydrogencarbonate (NaHCO3) can be added to the aquarium water to increase calcium concentration and carbonate hardness.

Description

Using this technique, Natriumhydrogencarbonate (NaHCO3) can be added to the aquarium water to increase calcium concentration and carbonate hardness. As a consequence, Cl (chloride) and Na (sodium) will remain in the environment, forming NaCl which is simple salt. Even though it is one of the main compounds in marine water, an excessive amount of NaCl could eventually lead to adulteration of the marine water composition and cause long-term issues. This technique can be applied over a period of time to increase the salinity/density of aquarium water. It is important to monitor these levels; if they increase too much, it will be necessary to replenish the tank with fresh water.
