Acorus calamus

Acorus calamus, often known as Sweet Flag, is a fantastic plant for your pond. The graphic provided here is just for illustrative purposes. The price given is for one rhizome.

Sweet Flag (Acorus calamus) is a marginal (shallow) water plant with tall, long, shiny sword-shaped leaves. When crushed, the brilliant green leaves have a perfume reminiscent to tangerines. These feature a pronounced midrib and a crinkly edge on one side. Acorus calamus blooms from May to July, with an unique blossom that resembles a tiny horn.

Because the rhizomatous root develops shallowly throughout the soil, we recommend planting in a large basket to allow for growth. Grow by the pond’s edge in full light. Height ranges from 60 cm to 90 cm (24 in to 36 in). Planting depth ranges from 7 to 15 cm (3 in – 6 in). We recommend a planting basket at least 19 cm across for one plant, or plant many of the same kind in a bigger basket for more impact.

We send all marginal water plants bare root, which means we remove the soil before packing the plants. During the summer, we may need to clip back part of the leaves for delivery.

The plants are delivered with extreme caution. We can combine postage to pay expenses in most cases if you purchase some other items as well. If you have any queries, please contact us before making your order. Please carefully check our Delivery Conditions before you place an order.
